RGA Individual Matchplay Championship – Season 2024

Rules of the game
Welcome to the sixth edition of the RGA Matchplay competition, which will be played in an elimination system, to crown the RGA Matchplay champion. Thank you for being a part of the competition.

The RGA Individual Matchplay 2024 competition is limited to 128 players (for the individual competition), on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration for the competition will be done on the am.golf website. Please follow RGA on the am.golf app to stay informed about the event and to be able to register. Registration will be closed on May 19, or earlier if we reach 128 registered players and 64 teams.
The draw for the matches will be held between May 20 and 31.

Tournament fee: 100 RON or 20 Euro/player. The tournament fee payment will be made to RGA accounts (RO42 CECEB 000 30 RON 223 0524 for payment in RON, and RO79 CECEB 000 C1 EUR 223 0530 for payment in EURO), once and is valid for the entire tournament, regardless of how many matches each player will play. Each player/team must pay the tournament fee before playing the first round. To avoid any misunderstandings, we advise you to pay the tournament fee at registration.

For each round, deadlines are set by which the matches must be played. The results of the matches must be sent to the email address: office@romaniangolf.ro, by the following deadlines:
Individual competition:
First round: July 28, 2024
Second round: August 4, 2024
Third round: September 1, 2024
Fourth round: October 6, 2024

The results will be displayed on the am.golf app.
The quarter-finals (only for the individual competition), semi-finals and final will take place at Bucharest Golf Club between October 28 and November 30, 2024.

Golf Rules
The governance rules of the games will be the R&A Rules and the R&A Matchplay Rules. Any conflicts must be reported to office@romaniangolf.ro and will be resolved by the RGA Ethics and Regulation Committee. The R&A rules can be found here: https://www.randa.org/en/rog/2019/pages/the-rules-of-golf
The method of calculating each player’s handicap is described below.

Competition rules
It is the responsibility of both players (or teams) to schedule a game in a timely manner. The player with the higher handicap has the right to choose and propose the opponent’s golf course, but must be careful and adapt to the opponent’s schedule. If a player/team makes 3 consecutive challenges without receiving acceptance or a counter-offer, the player who refuses to play will lose the game. The matches will be scheduled within the announced deadlines. Either player can forfeit the match and is obligated to notify this by email to office@romaniangolf.ro and cc the opponent. If the game is not played (except for the situations described above), the player/team with the lower handicap will move on.

For the 2024 RGA Individual Matchplay Championship, the “Home Club” is Bucharest Golf Club. In case players/teams cannot agree on the course or the date of the match, the “Home Club” rule applies: the match must be scheduled and played at the “Home Club” on one of the last three days of the round. It is the responsibility of the player with the higher handicap to reserve a tee time for matchplay at the Home Club (if applicable). The player/players who do not show up for the scheduled match at the “Home Club” lose the match.
However, because the above rules do not exhaustively cover all possible situations, and golf is characterized by fair play, we expect RGA members to reasonably and amicably agree on the place and date of the matches.
Bucharest Golf Club offers a 20% discount for non-member participants at the 2024 RGA Machplay Championship.

Rules of play and scoring:
Individual competition:
Players will play each hole until the ball is holed (stroke play).
The player with the fewest strokes (after subtracting the handicap stroke, if applicable) wins the played hole. If the number of strokes is tied (after subtracting the handicap stroke, if applicable), then the hole is tied and the points are split between the two players: each receives ½ point.
Example 1: Player A and Player B play the first hole. Player A has one stroke for this hole offered by the handicap difference. Player A scores 8 strokes on the hole, and Player B scores 7 strokes. The score is ALL SQUARE because Player A has an extra HCP stroke for this hole.
Example 2: Player A and Player B play the second hole. Neither player has an extra stroke. Player A scores 6 strokes on the hole, and Player B scores 7 strokes. The hole is won by Player A because they have one less stroke than their opponent.

The game will end earlier if one player leads by more points than the remaining holes to be played. For example, after the end of hole 16, Player A leads by 3 points. The game ends because only 2 holes are left to play. If the game ends in a tie, sudden death play-off will be played starting from hole 1 until one player wins a hole. For sudden death play-off, handicap will no longer be calculated based on the difficulty of the hole. It will be played as if both players have the same handicap.

Handicap (HCP):
Handicaps will be adjusted to 3/4 of the exact handicap as it appears on am.golf at the time of the match. For example, if a player has a handicap of 10, it will be adjusted to 7.5, which will then be indexed to the course difficulty index. If decimals result from multiplying by 0.75 (3/4), they are rounded down from x.x4 and up from x.x5. For example, a player with a handicap of 14.6 by adjusting with 3/4 reaches 10.95, which will be rounded up to 11.00.
A player with a handicap of 23.5, adjusted by 3/4, reaches 17.625 which will be adjusted to 17.60.
The person with the lowest handicap will play with 0, while the opponent with the higher handicap will receive the difference in strokes on the holes with the highest difficulty in ascending order (from 1 to 18). If player A has a game HCP of 4 and player B has a game HCP of 10, then player A will play with 0 and player B with 6 (will receive an extra stroke on each of the first 6 holes with difficulty).
Please use the exact handicap as it appears on the am.golf website on the day of the game. If the handicap from the club keeping track of the handicap is different from the one on am.golf, then the player in this situation will need to present a handicap certificate issued by the club where the player is a member (home club).
The use of a higher HCP than the official one may lead to disqualification.
Players are required to check their handicap and sign the scorecard with their handicap and score.

Teeing off
Players will usually agree on the tee boxes from which they will play. Ladies and seniors may play from the tees designated for them (without being mandatory), with the handicap adjustment according to the stroke index published by the course they are playing on.
If you are unsure which tees to play from, please contact the RGA Ethics and Regulation Committee at office@romaniangolf.ro.

Scores
Winners must email the match result and a photo of the signed scorecard by both players to office@romaniangolf.ro and in copy to the opponent’s email address for verification.

Thank you for being with us, and if you have any further questions, please send an email to office@romaniangolf.ro.

For example, if a player has a handicap of 10, it will be adjusted to 7.5, which will then be indexed to the course difficulty index. Players are required to check their handicap and sign the scorecard with their handicap and score.
In the team competition, the player with the lowest handicap from both teams plays with a handicap of zero. The other players adjust their handicaps by subtracting the handicap of the best player from their handicap. For example, player A from Team 1 has a handicap of 6, player B from Team 1 has a handicap of 15, and the opponents from Team 2 have handicaps of 7 and 9. Player A from Team 1 plays scratch, player B from Team 1 receives 9 strokes, and the opponents from Team 2 receive 1 stroke and 3 strokes, respectively.
These additional strokes are added to the holes with the highest difficulty in ascending order (from 1 to 18).

Players will usually agree on the tee boxes from which they will play. Ladies and seniors may play from the tees designated for them (without being mandatory), with the handicap adjustment according to the stroke index published by the course they are playing on.
